Self-Help for the Elderly has 9 activity centers throughout San Francisco. Activities include arts and crafts, bingo games, calligraphy classes, Chinese opera, cooking classes, ESL classes, citizenship classes, exercise classes (Luk Tung Kuen, Tai Chi, etc.), field trips, movies, painting, HICAP (a health insurance counseling program, primarily for Medicare), employment training, sightseeing tours, case management services, a naturalization program, singing groups, dancing, tablet/iPad classes, computer tutoring, the TEAM Program (Telecommunication Education and Assistance in Multiple-Languages) for resolving telephone bill issues, healthy cooking classes, cleaning services, self-care workshops (stress management, skin and hair care, retirement planning, etc.), and health/nutrition workshops. The activity centers also provide healthy meals, with a suggested, but not mandatory donation.
