Summary
The Back-Up Provider job for the San Francisco In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) Public Authority involves providing temporary, emergency assistance to IHSS recipients whose regular caregivers are unavailable. The role includes helping with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, meal preparation, medication management, and light housekeeping. Providers must be reliable, compassionate, and able to respond on short notice. Essential qualifications include prior caregiving experience, good communication skills, and the ability to work with diverse populations, including seniors and people with disabilities. Duties & Responsibilities
- Assistance with personal hygiene, grooming, feeding, medical monitoring, and health care related issues.
- Ensure client safety and maintain a safe environment.
- Remind/assist consumers with administering medication.
- Communicate effectively with consumers and the staff of Public Authority.
- Handle the physical aspects of the job, including bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, and walking for a period of time.
- Lift and transfer consumers using proper procedures.
- Plan meals, shop for groceries, prepare and serve food/meals, feed, and clean up.
- Accompany clients to scheduled appointments (as authorized).
- Arrive for scheduled shifts on time and equipped with required supplies and safety equipment.
- Update schedule and availability with the Public Authority staff monthly.
- Maintain a working smartphone to communicate with staff and consumers reliably via text and voice call.
- Utilize a timekeeping application on the smartphone to accurately record hours and location worked.
Qualifications
- 1+ years of Homecare/Hospice care experience or listed as an “experienced” in the Public Authority Registry;
- Ability to obtain Fingerprint clearance with DOJ.
- Enrollment in and maintenance of active status as an IHSS independent provider.
- Completion of Basic Home Care training course (as required by the Public Authority);
- Current CPR and First Aid certification;
- Completion of Annual Skills Assessment;
- Proof of current TB Test (within one year) or X-Ray Verification (every three years) or provide Symptom Review Letter (1st and 2nd year);
- Willingness to serve all areas/neighborhoods in San Francisco on a short-notice, intermittent, short-term, or on-call basis.
- Ability to lift 45 lbs.
Technical Knowledge
- Ability to learn Paychex smartphone application.
- Use of Smartphone for communicating via phonecalls and SMS (text)
