| Personal assistance for IHSS consumers who need workers on short notice has been a major concern for IHSS consumers in San Francisco. The on-call service of the Public Authority is designed to help IHSS consumers whose regular workers cancel on short notice, who are already authorized for IHSS services or waiting for IHSS hours, and private pay consumers who are currently using our Registry services. On-call services are available during all regular business hours, Monday-Friday, 8:30-5:00. Public Authority staff dispatch a worker from a special group of on-call workers who are willing to be available for immediate personal assistance to consumers. These workers are paid a higher hourly rate than other Registry workers and are employees of the Public Authority. Hours of on-call service provided by the Public Authority must be deducted from the total number of IHSS hours authorized by the County DHS IHSS program. Consumers who need immediate personal assistance during evenings, weekends, and holidays can leave a message requesting an on-call worker. At designated times, a Public Authority staff person will listen to messages and call consumers during the following hour to discuss their requests for on-call workers. Messages can be left at any time, and will be checked at the following times: Monday-Friday: 6 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, Sunday, and holiday mornings at 9 a.m. and evenings at 6 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Of course, calls during regular business hours will be answered by our staff and not a machine. Do not leave a message if you call Monday-Friday between 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Instead, stay on the line and ask to be connected to an On-Call worker for immediate assistance. IHSS consumers in San Francisco who have an urgent need for a replacement worker can call the Public Authority at 415 243-4477. IHSS consumers with a non-urgent or non-immediate need for workers can get assistance from the Public Authority Registry during regular business hours. |
